How do I know if I am developing a Problem ?
Recognising that you may be developing a gambling problem is the first step to regaining control.
- Gambling should be entertaining and not be seen as a means of making money.
- Only gamble what you can afford to lose.
- Avoid chasing losses
- Keep track of the amount of time and funds you are dedicating to gambling.
It can be useful to track your gambling habits in order to find out if you need help. In just a few minutes, completion of this anonymous self-assessment questionnaire will determine your gambling risk level. Should you be deemed a problem gambler we urge you to seek professional advice.
Living with a gambling problem can be tough, but always remember that you are not alone. Confidential help and counselling is only a telephone call away. There are a number of independent not-for-profit organisations which can provide you with free advice and assistance in relation to gambling issues. Sportsbetting endorses the services provided by Gambling Help. At Gambling Help you can speak with trained counsellors who understand that you need a safe anonymous place to obtain information about problem gambling and gambling addiction and advice regarding the management and resolution of such issues. You can contact Gambling Help on 1800 858 858 or visit their website at www.gamblinghelponline.org.au.
Stay in Control
We offer a number of facilities to help you keep control of your gambling including:
- The Sportsbetting pre-commitment scheme;
- Temporary and Permanent Self-Exclusion; and
- Facilities to allow you to easily and accurately monitor your betting activities.
Extensive research has shown that gambling problems can be significantly reduced when one decides in advance how much money they are willing to spend or risk on gambling.
Sportsbetting offers a pre-commitment scheme for its members whereby each member can prescribe the maximum amount that they will be able to deposit into their account in any 7-day period. Once a member has reached their deposit limit during a given 7 day period they will be prevented from making any further deposits (from any card or bank account) until they no longer exceed the deposit limit.
Members are able to decrease their deposit limit immediately and at any time, however, any requested increase in the deposit limit will not be actioned for at least 7 days following the request. This waiting period will allow the member sufficient time to properly consider their decision and reduce the chance of a member making an ill-advised decision based on impulse and an insufficient regard to the consequences of said decision.
The pre-commitment scheme is a simple and effective means of controlling and managing one’s gambling activities and helps to ensure that gambling remains a source of entertainment, excitement and fun and not the cause of concern or anxiety. We encourage all our members to contact us if they have any queries or would like more information regarding the Sportsbetting pre-commitment scheme.
Voluntary self-exclusion from gambling can be a helpful and even necessary course of action if you find that gambling has become a problem for you. Temporarily or permanently banning yourself from gambling websites will obviously reduce your opportunities to gamble and allow you to seek and obtain assistance with any gambling issues you may have.
At Sportsbetting we are able to place a bar on the account of any member immediately upon their request. This bar will prevent the placement of any bets or the making of any deposits either permanently or for a period specified by the member. Temporary account self-exclusions will not be rescinded prematurely in any circumstances. Permanent self-exclusions are unable to be rescinded at any notwithstanding any future request by a member to fully re-activate their account.
In addition to self-exclusion, Sportsbetting staff can provide assistance should any member wish to close their Sportsbetting account.
You can request a self-exclusion from all Northern Territory regulated wagering operators. Click here for further details on how to request this.
Monitor your betting transactions
You can readily access a full history of transactions, withdrawals and deposits through the "My Account" icon on our website or alternatively contact your friendly Sportsbetting support staff on 1300 36 32 36 about obtaining an account activity statement.
Preventing Children from Gambling
Sportsbetting only accepts members who are 18 years of age or above. We do not market directly to minors and we do not tailor our promotions to entice minors to gamble.
We also dedicate significant resources to ensure that minors do not wager on our website. We obtain and review personal documents and information about all prospective members and attempt to verify and corroborate said information, which must always include the prospective member’s date of birth, with the assistance of identity verification providers.
Although we use our best efforts to ensure that minors are unable to use the services which we provide, we also expect parents and guardians not to allow minors to use our services under any circumstances. If you suspect someone underage is using the Sportsbetting website or services, please contact us and appropriate and prompt action will be taken. If you are concerned that your child or a child you know is engaged in gambling activity then you may wish to install certain internet filters on your devices. Such filters can reduce a minor’s access to gambling platforms and thus the chance of underage gambling. We recommend: NETNANNY or CYBERPATROL
